Log Canoe Races

February 10, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

One of the many summer activities on the Miles river off St. Michaels is the Log Canoe races. Log canoes were originally used for oystering the Chesapeake Bay until being replaced by the bugeye and the skipjacks. The log canoes remaining in service and racing today are beautiful vessels and the race is a great photo opportunity. If you haven't had the opportunity to see a log canoe race up close it is worth a trip to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and board one of their boats to go out in the river and watch the racing. You will need to make reservations weeks in advance, but it is worth it. Please enjoy just a few of the shots I took the day I went.
