Photo Walk: Snow Hill, MD

This is the first in a series of planned blog posts for my photo walks around Snow Hill, MD. So, to kick things off, I thought I would feature some photos taken from the streets of the downtown area. You could literally drive through Snow Hill in three minutes or less without speeding. But if you do, you will miss a beautiful town that is rich in history, pride and tradition. A very brief history for those readers who are not in the local area. Snow Hill, located on the banks of the Pocomoke River, was established by English settlers in 1686, In its infancy, the town relied heavily on the waterway for trade and passenger service to the Western Shore, and in 1694, the town was designated a royal port by William & Mary of England.

In 1893 a fire destroyed Snow Hill's original downtown area and the early records of the town and county that were housed in the Courthouse. While the downtown business district was destroyed by the fire, many historic homes and public buildings remained, including some pre-Revolutionary War structures which are carefully preserved by Snow Hill residents today.

Today it is the county seat of Worcester County Maryland. The town is filled with small shops, galleries and restaurants occupying the historic buildings in the downtown area. Whether you rent a kayak from the Pocomoke River Canoe Co. and paddle down the beautiful Pocomoke river, or walk through the neighborhoods and enjoy the historic homes and churches, Snow Hill is a delight to visit. In upcoming posts, I will feature some of the merchants of Snow Hill, the Snow Hill Christmas parade as well as the holiday lights and displays. Historical information of Snow Hill was found in the Snow Hill website.

Most of the photographs in my blogs are available for purchase, please message me if you have any questions. Also please share this post with your family & friends and be sure to subscribe to my blog so you won't miss a post. Thanks for all your support and keep looking, "Thru My Lens".
